Cathedral Metroplitana The Cathedral Metroplitana is a cathedral in the center of Floripa. It was the first church on the island and was built in 1673 in honor of Nossa Senhora do Desterro (translation: Our Lady of Exile- A catholic title for the Virgin Mary). On September 25, 1747 the Governor asked for permission to add a matrix. The request was granted and construction for that was 1753-1773. In 1908 it was considered a Cathedral church.
