Cathedral Metroplitana The Cathedral Metroplitana is a cathedral in the center of Floripa. It was the first church on the island and was built in 1673 in honor of Nossa Senhora do Desterro (translation: Our Lady of Exile- A catholic title for the Virgin Mary). On September 25, 1747 the Governor asked for permission to add a matrix. The request was granted and construction for that was 1753-1773. In 1908 it was considered a Cathedral church. Clinical experiences

 So the question is, what kind of clinical experiences will we have in Brazil? The answer is: It's a work in progress so I'm not completely sure.   I can tell you what I am working on.  I am fairly confident that we will be able to get these.  But some of it has to do with cooperation with other entities so I can't promise anything yet.  I should know more as the time gets closer. There are a couple issues.  One is that Florianopolis is not third world.  Some places are eager to get any kind of medical volunteers because the need is so great.  Floripa is not like that.  That makes it a little difficult.  The other is the language barrier.   I am planning some experiences with the nursing faculty and students of the program at the Universidad Federal de Santa Catarina.  That is one of the universities in Florianopolis.  I visited the faculty when I was there last spring and they were super nice and showed me all a...

Morro das Pedras Clube and Hotel

 Hello.  We got back from Brazil last Wednesday and I can't say that I am very happy to be back in the land of snow and ice.  Brazil was so amazing.  The people are the most amazing, but it was also so warm and green.  We would wake up in the morning and go down to the beach before breakfast most days.  It was so beautiful. Okay, this post is about where we will be staying during the trip.  The idea in the beginning had been to find an Airbnb for all of us.  We were hoping that we would have 10 students sign up.  Instead, 19 students signed up and we are also allowing 2 student spouses to come.  That's 21 students plus faculty members.  I have looked for an Airbnb that will accommodate that many people but am unable to find one and we don't want to split up into different groups and stay in different locations.   So we decided on a hotel instead.  And I found a great one.  It is called the Morro das Pedras Clube ...
